Eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, robs the body of much-needed vitamins and minerals, and without proper nutrition, the gums can become increasingly soft, tender, and bleeding easily.
Eating disorders that involve excessive vomiting, can cause discoloration and erosion of the teeth due to constant contact with acid from the stomach. People who have eating disorders also may experience swollen salivary glands, dry mouth, sensitive teeth, and loss of tooth enamel. Anyone who has eating orders should consult a doctor, however let your dentist know about the disorder as well so that he/she can scheduled dental exams to monitor your dental health.
